What is the Fear of heights (Acrophobia)?
Acrophobia, the fear of heights, is another common fear. On the surface it seems more rational than a fear of spiders. The obvious fear is a fear of physical harm, of falling. However the fear is actually a bit more complicated than that. People can fear being trapped in a high place as well. Fear can manifest itself in extreme ways. Severe cases will inhibit individuals from riding an elevator or even climbing a flight of stairs. Symptoms of Acrophobia include dizziness, shortness of breath, panic attacks, shaking and trembling. Some argue that fear of heights is an evolutionary safety mechanism to limit people from falling to their deaths.
